When you're planning a holiday, choosing your accommodation is a very important decision, so you're bound to have some questions. So ask away! Here are some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) that guests typically ask about the church house, just to get you started:

Q. Is the Church House located in the centre of the village, or out in the country?
A. The Church House is located in the ancient centre of the village, just two-minute walk from the market, two bakeries, the pharmacy, the fruit/vegetable shop, a newspaper stand, a take-out pizza place and two bars.

Q. So is it noisy there?
A. Not at all, it is actually VERY quiet . . . well, except for the sound of the church bells, which sound every hour!

Q. How many people does the Church House sleep?
A. Technically, it sleeps four - but the second bedroom is on a "mezzanine" floor that is built into the roofspace, overlooking the sunroom, which means that there is not enough room to stand upright. There is, however, a King-size futon up there for sleeping.

Q. Is the Church House air-conditioned?
A. The main floor of the Church House stays cool no matter what the temperature outside (no, really!) I know that a lot of properties make this claim - and it isn't always true - but the thick stone walls of the ground floor really do keep the downstairs cool. However, this is not always the case upstairs, and so we have put air conditioning in both bedrooms and the sunroom / summer kitchen.

Q. Is the Church House "child-friendly"?
A. Honestly? No. In addition to sharp glass coffee tables and dining tables all over the place, there are also hard tile floors throughout, a 40-foot high open tread spiral staircase, and a terrace on the roof with only a very low wall to separate the little ones from a very sheer drop to the street below. And there is only a shower; no bath. We love kids, but there are much better places for a "family holiday", and we'd therefore be very reluctant to allow children under the age of 10, sorry.

Q. Is there parking?
A. The house does not have any private parking, but there are six marked parking bays about 30 feet from the front door, and another 15 spaces a further 50 yards beyond that. After that, you can park anywhere in the centre of the village, which means a two-minute walk back to the house, maximum. Plus, if you are coming home with lots of groceries or other shopping, you can easily pull up to the front door, unload, and then go and park the car afterwards. That works well for heavy suitcases, too!

Q. Is there a washing machine / iron / ironing board / hairdryer / wireless Internet / English-language television / DVD player / telephone?
A. Yes

Q. Is there a dishwasher / tumble dryer / large freezer / bathtub?
A. No

Q. How much does it cost to rent The Church House?
A. All of our 2010 pricing is listed here.

Q. Do you offer long-term discounts?
A. Yes. If you are planning to stay longer than three weeks, then please contact us for our special long-term rates.

Q. Are pets permitted?
A. Sometimes. Please contact us with details of the pet in question, keeping in mind that there is a 40-foot open-tread spiral staircase that leads up through the centre of the house . . . which means that a) your pet may be too frightened to go up and down the stairs which could mean that, worse still, b) you could end up carrying him/her up and down the stairs every day!

Q. Does the house offer wheelchair access?
A. Sadly, no. There are lots of (very steep) stairs throughout the house, from the minute you walk in the front door, including a 40-foot high open-tread spiral staircase.

Q. Where is caux?

A. Caux is located in the south of France, about two hours to the west of Marseilles, about 25 minutes inland (north) from the coast, and about two hours southeast of Toulouse. For more detailed directions and a map, look at the How To Find Us page

Q. So what is the best airport to fly into?
Beziers is the closest airport to us (25 mins by car), but only for flights from London or Bristol in the UK (with Ryanair) or from Paris. Montpellier is the next closest (45 minutes east of us by car), and after that it is a toss up between Carcassonne and Nimes (both are around 1 and 1/4 hours away). Perpignan is another option (1.5 hours), and after that you are looking at Toulouse, Barcelona, or Marseilles (all about two hours away by car)

Q. What’s the weather like?
A. The tourist board will gleefully tell you that this area has more than 300 sunny days a year, and that's probably true. We get very little rain between May and October. Average temperature for May/June/September/October ranges between 21 - 26 Celsius (70 - 79 Fahrenheit) . . . July and August tend to be a little warmer, maybe 26 - 30 Celsius (79 - 86 Fahrenheit). But weather is unpredictable, and so we offer no guarantees!! Check out our local online weather report before you pack!

Q. Is there a local market?
A. Yes, there is a market in the centre of town (a one-minute walk from the Church House) every Friday from 9am - 1pm. There is an even bigger market in Pezenas (just five minutes away by car) on Saturdays.

Q. Does it get very hot in the summer?
A. The honest answer? Sometimes. That is why we have put air-conditioning in the bedrooms and the sunroom. An umbrella for the beach probably isn't a bad idea either (they are readily available and not expensive)

Q. So is Caux good for a beach holiday, or sightseeing, or shopping, or what?
A. All of the above! Caux is less than 30 minutes from the coast, and so most of our renters end up at the beach at some point. But there is also great shopping, tons of restaurants, beautiful lakes, mountains, fantastic old churches, and great walks all within 30 minutes from the house.

Q. So is a car essential?
A. Absolutely.

Q. Does Caux have any bars or restaurants?
A. Caux does have two bars, but they are very traditional, and therefore frequented by a lot of older French farmers and workers from the vineyards . . . be prepared for a cultural experience! Unfortunately, although Bar Le Rex does serve dinner, there is no real restaurant in Caux, which means that you'll need to make a 6-7 minute drive into Pezenas, Roujan, or Neffies if you feel like eating out.
